According to Putin, Indian students are being held captive in Kharkiv.

On Thursday evening, Russian President Vladimir Putin declared that a big number of Indian students "continue" to be held "hostage" in a train station in Kharkiv. The Russian president's remarks came only hours after India announced that its preparations to evacuate nationals from Kharkiv, Ukraine, had been thwarted because violence in the city had restarted after a brief break on Wednesday.

Leaders of the four countries meet to discuss the conflict in Ukraine.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, US President Joe Biden, and leaders of Australia and Japan met to address the Ukraine conflict. According to Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, the leaders agreed that what is happening in Ukraine should not be permitted to happen in the Indo-Pacific.

New animosity is preventing Indians from being rescued from Kharkiv, according to the government.
