Bills banning mob lynching approved by at least three BJP rivals and one by the party itself in the last four years have not been enforced, with the Union government claiming that lynching is not specified as a crime under the Indian Penal Code (IPC). In 2019, the Union Home Ministry told Parliament that the IPC had "no separate" definition for lynching, but that lynching cases might be prosecuted under Sections 300 and 302, which deal with murder.

Bappi Lahiri, a singer-composer, has died.

Bappi Lahiri, the singer-composer who popularised disco music in India in the 1980s and 1990s, died on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, after suffering from several health difficulties, according to a doctor who treated him. He was 69 years old at the time.

India will create digitised maps of every village in the country.

India wants to create digital maps of all of its 6,00,000 villages, as well as pan-India 3D maps for 100 cities, according to Union Science Minister Jitendra Singh, who spoke at an event to commemorate a year since the amended geospatial policy guidelines were released. Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced SVAMITVA (Survey of Villages and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas) in April 2020, which is being implemented by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj.
