The son of a Union minister, Ashish Mishra, has been granted bail in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence.

On Thursday, the Allahabad high court granted bail to Ashish Mishra, the son of Union minister of state for home affairs Ajay Mishra 'Teni,' one of the main suspects in the Lakhimpur Kheri riots case. The bail order for Ashish Mishra, who was arrested on October 9, 2021, comes on the same day that Uttar Pradesh's first phase polling begins. On October 9, 2021, Ashish was apprehended in the Lakhimpur Kheri case, in which at least four farmers and a journalist were slain during a protest against the now-defunct farm rules. In the chargesheet submitted by Special Investigation (SIT) in the incident on October 3, Ashish Mishra was named as the main accused.

Travellers from other countries are required to self-monitor for 14 days.

The government changed international arrivals guidelines on Thursday, deleting the 'at risk' countries category - adopted when the Omicron Covid strain surfaced - and suggesting 14-day self-monitoring for symptoms instead of the present seven-day home quarantine. The new guidelines will take effect on Monday, February 14th, according to the Union Health Ministry. The ministry emphasised the "need to monitor the constantly changing" COVID-19 virus, but also stated that "economic operations must be pursued without hindrance."

Dalip Singh Rana, dubbed The Great Khali, is a professional wrestler who just joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. Khali's admission to the party comes just days before the Punjab Assembly elections. Punjab will hold elections on February 20 and the results will be announced on March 10.
